The Lebanese Academy is established by a governmental act to foster academic advancement

On April 14, 2022, a pivotal moment was marked by the official establishment of the Lebanese Academy, a prestigious non-governmental national association dedicated to fostering scientific, artistic, and societal advancement. The Academy’s foundation was formalized through the passage and publication of a law in the governmental official gazette, signifying a new era for the nation’s intellectual and creative pursuits.

The Lebanese Academy was created as a learned, honorary society to celebrate the exceptional achievements of its members—renowned scientists, artists, and polymaths committed to pioneering research, interdisciplinary and international collaboration, and the exchange and dissemination of knowledge.

Founded by a distinguished group of scholars, including Professor Youssef Fares, Professor Wassim Mansouri, Professor Georges Naffah, Professor Farah Moussa, Professor Frederic Maatouk, and Dr. Jawad Fares, the Academy aims to provide a dynamic platform for Lebanese leaders from all fields of human endeavor. The institution is designed to explore new ideas, address critical national and global issues, and collaboratively nurture the sciences and arts.

The law establishing the Academy underscores its mission to uphold and promote the interests, honor, dignity, and well-being of a free, independent, and virtuous nation. Membership in the Academy is a recognition of outstanding contributions in the sciences, arts, and technology, with members celebrated for their discoveries, advancements in knowledge, and application of expertise to solve societal challenges.

Professor Youssef Fares, a leading neurosurgeon and co-founder who will be serving as the president, expressed his vision for the Academy: “The Lebanese Academy stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of our intellectual and creative community. It is a place where the exceptional achievements of our citizens are not only recognized but also leveraged for the greater good.

With the formal establishment of the Lebanese Academy, Lebanon takes a significant step toward promoting progress and innovation. As the Academy begins its journey, it holds the promise of a brighter, more prosperous future, built on the foundation of intellectual and creative excellence.
