Lebanese Academy Joins the International Science Council

November 5, 2025

The Lebanese Academy is proud to announce its admission as a Member (Category 2) of the International Science Council (ISC) — the world’s largest international, independent, and broad-based organization dedicated to advancing science as a global public good.

The ISC brings together over 250 leading scientific bodies, including international unions, national academies, research councils, and young academies from around the world. Its mission is to serve as the global voice for science, promoting the free and responsible practice of science and supporting international collaboration on issues of global importance — from sustainability and equity to the role of science in public policy and human development.

In his welcome letter, Sir Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council, congratulated the Lebanese Academy on its membership and emphasized the importance of joining ISC’s collective efforts to advance “science in a complex world.” The Academy will be invited to participate in key ISC activities, including the General Assembly, the membership midterm meeting in Beijing (October 2026), and working groups shaping global science governance.

As a new member, the Lebanese Academy will contribute to ISC’s initiatives by connecting Lebanese scholars to international scientific networks, fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations, and amplifying Lebanon’s role in global scientific dialogue.

Becoming a member of the International Science Council marks a milestone for the Lebanese Academy,” said Professor Youssef Fares, Founding President of the Academy. “It affirms Lebanon’s place in the global scientific community and strengthens our mission to promote scientific excellence, collaboration, and the responsible use of knowledge for societal progress.”

This membership further positions the Lebanese Academy as a bridge between Lebanese and international science — advancing knowledge exchange, policy engagement, and innovation on the global stage.
