Advancing Knowledge. Empowering Lebanon.

About the Lebanese Academy
Founded in 2022 by Decree No. 8376 dated 10/9/2021 of the Lebanese Council of Ministers (Notices and Notifications No. 268), the Lebanese Academy serves as Lebanon’s national, merit-based academy of sciences, arts, and letters. It was established to unite the country’s intellectual community—within Lebanon and across its diaspora—around the shared mission of advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and promoting evidence-based dialogue in service of society.
Born in a period of national uncertainty, the Academy embodies a belief in the transformative power of intellect and creativity. It provides an independent platform for Lebanese scholars, researchers, and creators whose work transcends borders and disciplines, converting ideas into progress and public value.
The Academy’s elected members represent Lebanon’s foremost minds across the biomedical and neural sciences, natural sciences, technical and environmental sciences, and the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Collectively, they have made pioneering discoveries, developed innovative therapies and technologies, and produced scholarship that has influenced global thought and policy.
Many members hold prestigious appointments at world-leading universities and research centers, have been elected to international academies, and have received major awards recognizing their contributions to science, medicine, engineering, and the humanities. Their discoveries range from advances in medical sciences, to breakthroughs in environmental engineering, renewable energy, education reform, and cultural preservation. Together, they embody Lebanon’s intellectual resilience and its enduring capacity to contribute meaningfully to global progress.
In 2025, the Lebanese Academy was admitted as a full member of the International Science Council (ISC), joining the world’s most respected network of national academies and scientific unions. This recognition affirms the Academy’s commitment to advancing science as a global public good and to strengthening Lebanon’s voice within the international scientific community.
