Biosketch
Youssef Fares, MD, PhD, EMBA is a renowned neurosurgeon, academic, and healthcare leader. He serves as a Professor of Neurosurgery at the Lebanese University and as the CEO and Chairman of Al-Zahraa Hospital University Medical Center. Prof. Fares has held numerous influential roles, including Dean and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, and Founding Director of the Neuroscience Research Center at the Lebanese University. His extensive research portfolio spans neurosurgery, neuroscience, and conflict medicine, resulting in over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including books, book chapters, original research articles, reviews, and editorials. Prof. Fares’s pioneering contributions have earned him election to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and the World Academy of Medical Sciences. His dedication to advancing scientific infrastructure in Lebanon and the wider region was recognized with the TWAS Arab Regional Award by The World Academy of Sciences for “building scientific institutions.” He is also a fellow of several international organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the International College of Surgeons. Prof. Fares earned his MD from the University of Granada and his PhD in Medicine and Surgery, summa cum laude, from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He completed his neurosurgery training at the Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz of the Autonomous University of Madrid, attaining Board Certification from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.
