Founding and Purpose

The Lebanese Academy was established by governmental Decree No. 8376 dated 10/9/2021, Notices and Notifications No. 268, and formally launched in 2022 by a group of six Lebanese scholars committed to building a platform that champions merit, impact, and intellectual leadership. Their founding vision was to create a national academy that is inclusive, globally connected, and focused purely on academic excellence, leadership, and service to society.

Born at a time of national crisis and institutional fragility, the Academy was envisioned as a response to Lebanon’s urgent need for independent, merit-based, and unifying academic leadership. It brings together leading Lebanese and Lebanese-descended scholars, artists, scientists, and thinkers—across disciplines and continents—whose work embodies the ideals of knowledge, creativity, and public responsibility.
