Biosketch

Dr. André Mégarbané is a distinguished Lebanese-French medical geneticist renowned for his extensive research on genetic disorders prevalent in Lebanon and the Arab region. He earned his M.D. from Saint Joseph University (USJ) in Beirut in 1990 and later specialized in medical genetics, obtaining a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from Paris V University in 1997. Currently, he serves as a professor and chair of the Department of Human Genetics at the Lebanese American University (LAU), where he is also the Assistant Dean for Research. His research spans intellectual disabilities, dysmorphology, osseous malformations, neuromuscular disorders, and other rare diseases, contributing over 350 publications to the field. In recognition of his contributions, he has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Abdel Hamid Shuman Award for Best Young Arab Scientist (1998), the Rammal Rammal Award from Eurosciences (2000), and the Arab Award for Genetics (2024). His work continues to shape genetic medicine and advance understanding of hereditary diseases in the region.
